Featuring Tathagata Ghose, based in the UK, is a keen following of Indian raga music, which he started learning as a child, and then later receiving guidance from several renowned experts such as Pt Utpal Sarkar, Pt Srikant Bakre, Pt Arun Bhaduri and Pt Mohon Singh of Shantiniketa.
Sarkar, Pt Srikant Bakre, Pt Arun Bhaduri and Pt Mohon Singh of Shantiniketan. He earned his degree in Hindustani classical music from Bangiya Sangeet Parishad. His main profession is that of an economist: Tathagata is employed as a Director, Senior Economist and FX strategist in London by Germany’s Commerzbank AG.
He will explain and demonstrate the nature of classical ragas Behage and Mullhare, and discuss how Rabindranath adapted these ragas. Amrita Ghosh will then demonstrate how, in his songs, Rabindranath used these ragas. Tirthankar Roy will accompany Amrita on esraj.
Amrita Ghosh trained in Rabindrasangeet from the age of five under Smt Ila Chakraborty. Later she trained under Sri Alak Roychoudhury and Smt Pompa Dhar at Nupur School of Rabindrasangeet. She is now training in Hindustani classical with Tathagata Ghose.
When she’s not singing, she works in a further education college as the Head of Department for ESOL and for subcontracted delivery. In her spare time she reads, travels, cooks, paints and sews.
We are very pleased to welcome both along with Tirthankar Roy on 22 July.
Please remember that there is good parking availability near to CUFOS Hall, if you wish to attend any (or all) or these events.
