Amal Chaudhuri (Amalda) was a beloved dad, father-in-law, brother, uncle and friend, as well as a valued Rotarian, member and former chairman of The Tagore Centre UK, and life member of the Ramakrishna Vivekananda Mission UK Centre. In his professional life he trained in medicine in India and the UK and worked as a senior hospital consultant in the NHS.

He loved adda (Bengali for chatting) with his friends about politics, culture and society. He also had a love of Bengali sweets and snacks! He was a very sociable person, good-spirited and active, often organising cultural and charity fund-raising events. In his retirement, he frequently travelled to far-flung parts of the world and, having stepped down from medicine, turned his attention to the arts, researching and giving talks on the cultural movement known as the Bengal Renaissance.

He was chairman of The Tagore Centre UK during a very turbulent time of its history. His enthusiastic fund raising from across the world and his skilled, analytical study of the constitution helped the centre navigate its way through troubled times.

He will always be remembered with fondness and respect.

Rest in peace, Amalda.
